He’s the rebel musician who wants to make the world a better place. A favorite of the band U2, Michael Franti is an American rapper, musician, poet, spoken word artist and singer-songwriter. Franti has participated in many musical projects, including the Beatnigs and the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. Franti is the creator and lead vocalist of his current independent project, Michael Franti & Spearhead, a band that blends hip hop with a variety of other styles, including funk, reggae, jazz, folk, and rock. He is a staunch supporter for a wide array of peace and social justice issues, especially peace in the Middle East. Franti made a film, I Know I’m Not Alone, about the cost of war in the Middle East. His most recent album, Soulrocker, hit #5 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and #17 on Billboard’s Top Current Albums chart. In 2017, he played 110 shows for over 450,000 fans, and over the course of his career has been a perennial favorite at major festivals around the world. He is currently writing and recording his 10th studio album which is due out in 2018. Franti continues to try and improve the world as he tours hard, winning devoted fans wherever he travels.
