Kylie Minogue is the biggest selling female pop singer in Australia and Europe. In 1979, she began her acting career in the Australian TV series Skyways before achieving national fame in the soap opera Neighbours. Around the time Minogue joined, Neighbours also started airing in the UK. Now a major celebrity in the UK, Minogue agreed to give a charity performance, choosing to sing “Loco-Motion.” A local record company, Mushroom, saw the potential in releasing a single by the popular young TV star. The result was a number one record. “I Should Be So Lucky,” gave Minogue the second of her six Australian number one singles and the first of her five English number ones. In 2000, she reemerged with the critical hit Light Years. The single “Spinning Around” went number one in both England and Australia. Her reign in music continued in 2001. Minogue issued Fever in October on the heels of the successful single “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.” Such hype around the song allowed it to become a global smash. In 2007, Kylie released her tenth album, X. In 2008, Kylie was also honored by Queen Elizabeth with an OBE for her services to music. Kylie released her eleventh full-length, Aphrodite, in 2010. In 2012, she celebrated her twenty fifth year in the music business with a greatest hits collection. She also found time to restart her acting career with a leading role in the acclaimed Holy Motors.
