Diana Krall

BIOGRAPHY

With her pre-bop piano style and photogenic looks, Diana Krall took jazz by storm in the late ’90s and was established as one of the biggest sellers in jazz. Her 1996 album, All for You, a Nat King Cole tribute, showed the singer-pianist’s roots, and since then she has stayed close to that tradition-minded mode, with wildly successful results. Krall attended Berklee College on scholarship in the early ’80s, then LA, before moving to Toronto. After releasing her first album, Krall was signed to GRP for her second, Only Trust Your Heart. Her third was the Nat King Cole Trio tribute, All for You. Love Scenes followed in 1997. When I Look in Your Eyes followed in 1999. Whatever reknown Krall had earned for her work exploded with this album, which became an international best-seller and earned her a Grammy. It was the first jazz album to be nominated for Album of the Year in 25 years. In 2001, she released The Look of Love. The album topped the charts and went quintuple platinum in Canada. It also helped Krall win three Junos in 2002. In 2003, Krall married Elvis Costello. A year later, she issued The Girl in the Other Room. Returning to the large ensemble standards approach of her previous album, Krall released From This Moment On in 2006. In 2009, she released the bossa nova-themed Quiet Nights. Glad Rag Doll followed in 2012. Diane Krall continues to perform all over the world.
