Sawyer Brown made their national TV debut on Star Search in 1984. After winning, the band landed a record deal with Curb Records and charted its first single, “Leona.” Following up with pulsating party songs “Step That Step” and “Betty’s Bein’ Bad,” Sawyer Brown won the Country Music Association’s Horizon Award in 1985. The band continued to tour and had another hit with “The Walk” in 1991. A string of Top five hits followed. During that time, the band’s music changed somewhat, drifting from high-energy fun tunes to more thought-provoking fare like “The Dirt Road,” “Café Down on the Corner” and “All These Years.” In 1997, Sawyer Brown were named the Academy of Country Music’s top vocal group for 1996. The Top Ten Drive Me Wild arrived in 1999, and its title cut was also a Top Ten hit. Following 2002’s poppy Can You Hear Me Now, the group parted ways with Curb and signed a new deal with Disney’s country subsidiary Lyric Street. In 2011, they dropped the album Travelin’ Band. Sawyer Brown continues to kill it on the road.
