Formed in 2002 by schoolmates Isaac Slade and Joe King, The Fray released their debut album, How to Save a Life, in 2005, which was certified double platinum by the RIAA. Their first single, “Over My Head (Cable Car),” became a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, peaking at number 37. The song peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. The song was the fifth-most downloaded single of 2006. Their second single, “How to Save a Life,” peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the sixth longest charting single of all time on the Billboard Hot 100, tying with Santana’s “Smooth” at 58 consecutive weeks. “Over My Head (Cable Car),” was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and “How to Save a Life” was nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The band’s self-titled second album, released in 2009, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2010. “Never Say Never” was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal as well. They released Helios in 2014. The Fray continues to tour in support of their catchy, brilliant songs.
