Seal emerged from England’s house music scene in the early ’90s to become the most popular British soul vocalist of the decade. He created a distinctive fusion of soul, folk, pop, dance, and rock that has brought him success on both sides of the Atlantic. His first first single, “Crazy,” became a number 15 hit in the U.K. and reached number seven in America upon its release in 1991. In the summer of 1994, he released his second album, also titled Seal. Preceded by the American Top 40 hit, “Prayer for the Dying,” the album did well, but it didn’t really take off until a year after its release when “Kiss from a Rose” was featured on the soundtrack to Batman Forever. “Kiss from a Rose” became a number one pop single in America and spent a total of 12 weeks at the top of the charts. Human Being hit the shelves in 1998 with Seal IV following five years later. In 2007, Seal returned with System then 2008’s Soul, which featured covers of classic soul standards. The album was produced by David Foster, who would return for the 2010 release Seal 6: Commitment. Foster was on board again as producer for 2011’s Soul 2. Seal was a coach on The Voice Australia in 2012 and 2013 and 2017 and was a guest judge for America’s Got Talent Season 12. Seal continues to tour the world.
