Alt-rock band Silversun Pickups formed in 2000 in Los Angeles. The band is composed of Brian Aubert, Nikki Monninger, Christopher Guanlao, and Joe Lester. The band released their debut EP, Pikul, in July 2005, and their debut album, Carnavas, in July 2006. Carnavas peaked at No. 80 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 435,000 copies since its release. Since then they have release Swoon, Neck of the Woods, Better Nature, and Their fifth album, Widow’s Weeds, which was released in June 2019. The band’s sound in their first two albums, Carnavas and Swoon, often encompassing multiple overdubs of distorted guitars, is frequently compared to that of Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine. Later albums Neck of the Woods and Better Nature largely dropped that aspect of the music, instead focusing on the incorporation of electronic elements into the music. They put on a great show, so forget to “pickup” tickets when the are in your town!
